PE Products in this category are usually made of polyethylene (PE, LDPE, HDPE or LLDPE) and are not PVC.

An industrial PE bag needs to be evaluated together with its contents and filling process. A construction that works for free-flowing granules is not automatically suitable for a low-bulk-density powder or a product with hard edges. This page concerns industrial polyethylene film bags, not woven PP sacks, bulk bags or liners used without their required outer support. The aim is to connect bag format, filling and shipment performance in a clear purchasing enquiry. Capacity, formulation and specialist suitability must be established from the evidence and sample associated with each actual offer.

Begin with how the contents behave

A commercial material name is not a complete filling description. State whether it is powder or granules, relevant particle characteristics, dust tendency and behaviour during filling. Target weight alone does not determine required volume: equal masses of different products can occupy different spaces. Provide a sample and useful technical information to the packaging reviewer so that dimensions and closure can be proposed around the real material.

If the product is sensitive to moisture, contamination or light, define the requirement and a relevant assessment. Industrial does not imply unlimited chemical resistance or qualification for dangerous goods. Hazardous contents and special transport conditions require separate selection by the responsible qualified specialist. Nothing on this page certifies an unidentified bag for those applications or replaces a required packaging approval.

Premade bags and FFS film are different inputs

In form-fill-seal processing, the package is made from film within the line. Another process receives an already formed bag. Equipment manufacturers such as Haver & Boecker distinguish these routes. Do not combine an enquiry for premade sacks with a request for roll material intended for an FFS line. Mouth format, how the bag is held and the closure stage must match the actual equipment input.

Obtain the input specification from the line owner before requesting quotations. Show width, length, folds, sealing area and presentation direction in a drawing. When replacing existing packaging, explain the constraints of the installed equipment. Do not assume any PE bag will work on any filler after minor adjustment. A packaging change may require an independent review of the equipment and operating process.

Account for entrained air and dust

For some powders, air carried into the package affects its shape and discharge from the line. W&H's industrial-bag guidance discusses appropriate venting alongside product protection. That is not permission to perforate a bag arbitrarily. Any air-release solution must be compatible with particle retention, protection requirements and the filling process, and should be evaluated by the responsible technical team as part of the complete design.

During trials, compare the bag immediately after filling and after the relevant settling interval. Record dust around the closure area or package without automatically attributing it to the film. Coordination between the bag respondent and filling-line owner is important. A proposed solution should not improve discharge alone while undermining the protection needed later in storage. Both stages belong in the approval discussion.

Inspect the complete package from mouth to bottom

An intact body does not establish an intact closure. Examine the mouth, bottom and folds separately on filled samples, including how the contents contact them. If failures repeat in one location, photograph that location and record when failure occurs. Changing gauge without understanding the failure can increase consumption while leaving the underlying closure or package-geometry problem unresolved.

Ask the quality team to select tests relevant to the complete bag and intended handling. Film testing is not filled-bag testing: ASTM D1709 addresses impact resistance of film specimens, and its result should not be converted into an advertised bag capacity. The test report should identify conditions, filling material and acceptance criteria. The word tested, without that context, is not a useful performance specification.

Approve palletising as a separate stage

A sound individual bag can behave differently in a multilayer stack. Check final shape, filling consistency and contact between packs on the real pallet configuration. Pallet quality, stacking pattern and external unitisation are also parts of the system. Neither all load stability nor all shipment protection can be assigned to the bag film, and one successful specimen does not qualify an entire palletised shipment.

Include the transport route, warehouse intervals and unloading method in the assessment. Outdoor exposure, sunlight and humidity should be stated as specific needs, with suitability confirmed for the proposed construction. The terms durable and industrial do not authorise indefinite storage in every environment. Destination feedback on leakage, deformation and label visibility is valuable evidence when reviewing a subsequent purchase.

Keep identity through filling and use

Link bag code, production identity and print revision to the approved specification. For materials with similar grades, a readable identifier helps prevent warehouse and destination mistakes. Check information on a filled bag and within the pallet layout. Wording hidden beneath a fold or facing into a stack may not support the intended identification task. Assign responsibility for variable data printed during packing.

Review changes to bag material, construction, printing or closure against the earlier approval. Request evidence for recycled-content or environmental claims applying to the actual structure, and do not confuse those claims with suitability for product contact. Food applications require information relevant to the food and use conditions. An industrial bag designation does not itself establish suitability for direct contact with edible contents.

Compare cost against intact delivered product

During a purchasing trial, record feeding behaviour, interruptions, bag rejects, closure results and relevant handling outcomes. Bag consumption is only one cost element; lost contents and rework matter too. Nevertheless, do not turn a limited trial into a guaranteed saving claim. State its scope and outstanding checks beside the result so that the commercial decision does not run ahead of the available evidence.

For a Saderati enquiry, provide material information, target weight and volume, filling route, bag drawing, handling conditions and expected acceptance approach. Ask the respondent to distinguish confirmed features from points needing samples. Price, count, empty-bag protection and specification revision should be explicit. Final approval is meaningful only when the trial material is linked to the construction actually requested in the commercial order.

Buyer questions

How does an industrial PE bag differ from a woven PP sack?

They use different constructions: film-based and woven. A liner or coating can add further differences. Selection or substitution should consider contents, filler and finished package rather than the generic word sack.

Does the target filling weight determine bag size?

No. Product volume under the actual filling conditions, closure allowance and final shape matter. A representative sample and process information are stronger starting points than weight alone.

Can holes be added to release air?

Air release needs an engineered, approved approach. Arbitrary perforation can conflict with particle retention and protection. Review it with the packaging team and equipment specialist rather than treating it as a general correction.

When is a trial shipment successful?

When predefined criteria for filling, closure, relevant handling and use are satisfied. A few intact bags at the line exit do not by themselves establish transport performance or a rated capacity.
